Through the January 12-13 weekend of 2019, the JDC West competition took place with the theme of “Shaping Tomorrow.” I had the honour and privilege to serve as an academic judge with the Operations Management discipline, a new category debuting on the campus of host school SFU.

First and foremost, I’d like to offer a heartfelt congratulations to all delegates of JDC West, the supporters/champions of these students, and especially to the 200+ volunteers who planned and executed this weekend which will be remembered for many years to come. Bravo!

Along with my fellow judges Nathan Armstrong, Jason Yu, Dom Wong, and Niall Duggan., I received presentations from 12 delegate teams hailing from top business schools across Western Canada. We had to score each team across the areas of Situational Analysis, Strategic Recommendation, Implementation, Q&A Management, and Presentation Structure & Delivery…

Getting The Right People On Board

Getting the right people on board (for whatever type of organization) is a topic I've been wanting to cover for a while now, either via blog or podcast. The problem is that I hadn't found a good way to put it concisely, given my tendency towards long-winded pieces. 

A friend recently lent me a copy Jim Collins' book, Good to Great, where Collins describes: (1) how companies transition from being good companies to great organizations, (2) how most companies fail to make the transition, and then (3) offers some practical suggestions to implement these ourselves.

Putting together a personal, public webspace for myself as a content platform has been something I've wanted to do for half a decade now. When I was initially putting this site together, I was met with a number of road bumps which I struggled with (procrastination and indecision certainly being among them). It is thanks to these friends that I was able to trudge forward and keep refining the site to the point where I was eventually satisfied with the product.

The Kiwanis Club of Vancouver received its charter in 1919 to function primarily in service and goodwill. Since its inception, the Kiwanis Club of Vancouver has raised funds for the handicapped, aged, and needy, and sponsored other civic, cultural and social activities.
